About me
I'm a professor of finance at Hasselt University and a visiting professor at Vlerick Business School, specializing in multigenerational family enterprises. For over fifteen years, I've studied how money shapes families: the conversations they avoid, the decisions they make, and the legacy they pass on.
My research, published in international academic journals, covers governance, dividend and compensation policies, financing, family offices and financial literacy. One observation connects it all: in families, financial decisions are never purely financial. An inheritance, a gift to one child or even pocket money also sends a message about fairness, trust and belonging.
In the book Money & Generations, I translate that research into practical guidance for families and their advisors. I also act as a trusted advisor to multigenerational family enterprises, working on ownership and governance questions over time.
I speak to families, next generations, advisors and organizations worldwide, in English and in Dutch. Because research shouldn't stay in academic journals, I also share it through columns, interviews, and my Substack newsletter (Not) About Money.
